My best days in Bolivia. Lost into the jungle: Bermejo

In Bermejo just ask of Vicente. He is a local authority in terms of wild trekking. He has a camping outside the town, nestled against the Amboro National park. We reached his house following the river but there is a dusty road if you travel by car.

In his camping there is no electricity nor internet. The food is just what he has in his garden and what we bought, some pasta and wine. However his garden with carrots, onions, tomatoes and fruits is open to everyone.





The place is beautiful but he surprised us asking to go fishing at about midnight.

After a wonderful breakfast with the "pescado" 🐟🐟 he showed us one of his path in the jungle. Basically he goes out with a machete and creates his own route. Very wild. At some point we climbed a mountain to reach the top. We were walking on a super small path pasted to the rocks and not watching down. Just like some goats. Super scary. If you have troubles with the highness, this trekking is definitely not for you.







At night there was a local party for the 62th anniversary of the town. Obviously we joined and stayed out till late. Will just say that we had to go back to the camping at night crossing a river and walking while hearing all kind  of animal call. And Vicente just told us we could find pumas. And the few beers we had didn't help either 🍺🍺

The day after, as we were not enterly satisfied yet 😅, we decided to go hiking without Vicente. All good apart we got lost. Likely we made it after an intense hour.




Obviously we decided to spend the last two days just laying down along he river. Waterfalls, sun, notthatcold water were just perfect after two super wild days.





Vicente has always been living there. He loves the nature and you can feel it. You will be free to pick his tomatoes up or play with his donkey or horses or just go fishing with his equipment. Vicente is a wonderful person. And I wish him all the best.

The unknown Bolivia: Tupiza

Just five hours by bus from Uyuni, going south, you will find Tupiza, a nice town of about 40,000 people. Most of the people who leave Uyuni go to Potosi or Sucre or La Paz, skipping the south of Bolivia. The pictures below will show you why I didn't skip it. Tupiza is a super quiet and safe town where to enjoy the hot weather, hiking the mountains which is surrounded of. There are too many hill to hike so you just need to choose. The most famous are the Cerro La Cruz and the Cordillera de Chicas, where you can see the Puerta del Diablo too. The Cordillera can be visited also by riding a horse (this is the most common type of tour they offer here). To have some fun, just get the curious taxi they have here: three wheele vehicles very similar to the Italian"ape car" (bee-car) 🐝 Quite, safe, warm (Uyuni is super cold town) and pretty. I've enjoyed Tupiza.

A wonderful boat trip from Iquitos, Peru, to Coca, Ecuador. And few more info

If you are an adventurous travel and want to go to Iquitos by boat, and you are in Peru, you will need to go to Tarapoto, from there take a bus to Yurimaguas (about 2hrs) and there you will have 2 options. Fast boat goes everyday at 8pm. It costs 150 soles (included food) and it takes 17hrs to reach Nauta. Then take a 2hrs bus to Iquitos. Slow boat doesn't go every day. It's a cargo ship so you need to wait them to load and unload it. There are a couple per week. But you never know when they leave exactly. You just need to speak with the captain. It takes 3 nights to reach Iquitos, for 100soles, including food. You will need to buy a tapperwear and a spoon for the food they provide, and an hammock where you will sleep, although there are people sleeping on the floor. I took the fast one: my cousin from Italy was on holiday in Peru for a couple of weeks and just 2days in Iquitos, so I could not wait. It is like travelling by bus. Super boring. But to meet my cousi

Latacunga, a small city between a huge lagoon and a massive volcano

The centre of Ecuador is full of lagoons and volcanoes. If you stay to Latacunga you can easily reach the fantastic Quilotoa lagoon. It's inside of an inactive volcano erupted hundreds of year ago. The colour is amazing. You can go around the crater for a walk of about 4hours or go down to the lagoon which takes 3hours in total. Don't forget you are at about 4000mt above the sea level. From Latacunga it's possible also to reach the second highest volcano of Ecuador, the Cotopaxi. The park is huge, and it's not possible to enter walking. You can book a tour right outside the park or, as I did, hitchhik. On the way to the volcano there's a lagoon too. Cars will take you to about 4500mt,  then you need to walk to the refuge. You will reach the 5100mt. After this point, it starts to be icy so a specific equipment is highly recommended, if you want to reach the 6000mt.
